BMW Art Cars

Despite less-than-optimal lighting, the BMW Art Cars in Grand Central were pretty fantastic to see close-up.

Andy Warhol’s 1979 M1 above.

It had texture to the paint because he slathered it on there. While I am not a huge Warhol nut, he did a good job on this car.

It finished 6th overall at LeMans in 1979.

It also has some racing wear and tear which only enhances the patina.

Frank Stella’s 1976 3.0 CSL

The CSL is a fantastic looking car stock, but this car just made me sad I wasn’t driving it.

This and the M1 both raced at LeMans

That wing just kills it.

Roy Lichtenstein’s 1977 320i

This car looked pretty fantastic too.

I don’t think it raced though.

Good stuff.

Another great wing.

Robert Rauschenberg’s 635 CSi

I was not as impressed with this one but I now think it is because it wasn’t a race car. That put the others over the top for me.

It’s really pretty good, actually.

Collision course.
